Degrassi: The Next Generation is a Canadian teen drama television series created by Linda Schuyler and Yan Moore. It premiered on CTV, a terrestrial broadcaster, the October 14, 2001 with the pilot episode of "Mother and Child Reunion." It is the fourth series set in the fictional universe created by Schuyler and Kit Hood Degrassi in 1979. Like its predecessors, Degrassi: The Next Generation follows a group of students at Degrassi Community School, a fictional Toronto, Ontario, and shows some typical problems and challenges common to the life of a teenager, like intoxication, rape, pregnancy, abortion, bullying, family problems and death. In the U.S., the series airs on TeenNick, a digital cable network aimed at adolescents and young adults.
